Springing Forward with Great Intentions

Good morning readers! I hope you are well and enjoyed the Easter holiday. Instead of lounging this morning in my usual spot, which I did sit and daydream. I decided to get down and dirty in the garden. I was inspired by the Ostara tradition. Let’s brew about it.

I checked off the egg coloring from the list over the weekend and relaxed, what about you? It was a beautiful sunny day and it wasn’t too hot. But back to me getting dirt under my nails. Ostara is about rebirth and new beginnings and part of honoring Ostara traditions is to sow seeds and I have a ton of those. Plus, what with all the baking and breakfast making I kept the broken egg shells to use as organic seedling pots. I also kept the egg carton as well to keep them from rolling about until it’s time to plant them into a pot or the ground.

BUT what seeds to plant? i live in Florida so unlike other states, I can technically grow anything whenever throughout the year which is a blessing. Besides the seed dilemma the lonely cucumber plant bit the dust( it was too hot and way too much sun where I had planted it.) So, the new beginnings for the vegetable fruit garden is in planning mode. Maybe peppers and zucchini would be a better fit, perhaps grapes. I also, thought about sectioning off a corner for a tea garden and possibly blueberry bushes.

However, the seeds I have are more for pollinators like butterflies, hummingbirds and caterpillars. So, I bought a beautiful passion flower vine, an African butterfly plant and a butterfly bush called a Black Knight. I hada Black Knight before not only are the flowers a deep purple but the flowers had a sweet and fresh smell to them. Currently one of the pots have the flowers in question.

I feel that though this post is about gardening renewal/ rebirth should also, be about making new choices. What goals are you making?Have they worked or did you need to let them go? Have you needed to pivot from the goal you started last week and found abetter path to tread? I’d love to know what you’re getting into.

What Came First Easter or Ostara?

Good morning and Happy Good Friday Eve readers! Last Saturday i ventured to The Raven Moon and it so happened to be the “pink” full moon or the first full moon of spring and I started to wonder what does that spell for Easter or the pagan holiday Ostara? Who came first? Let’s brew about it!

Now, Easter is the celebration of Jesus rising from his grave after being dead for three days. The first known recording of the resurrection is as far back as 325 B.C. Ostara is a little more difficult to pinpoint due to the fact that Anglo-Saxons didn’t have the ability to write and most of their rituals or celebrations were done by word of mouth. BUT some say it’s the 6th or 7th century which is crazy how far back that is. However, it could be further since again done by word of mouth plus the Christian church tried to rid their practices and forcing their beliefs onto them.

And here is where the two collide or rather the Christian church tried to convert the Anglo-Saxons to their religion by blending the two beliefs together. Ostara or Eostre are one in the same, a goddess of fertility and rebirth, Eostre is the German word for Easter. Naturally, the church used that as their spearhead to convert the Anglo-Saxons. So out goes the goddess of spring of fertility and in comes the Lord and Savior or were the two birthed around the same time?

Either way, both represent rebirth and new beginnings for the greater good of mankind. Celebrating that though winter time is dark there will always be spring to bring things back to life or the shedding of what is no longer needed so that something new and better can fill it’s place. The ways to celebrate Easter or Ostara is with decorating eggs, planting seeds and celebrating the longer days filled with warmth and light. But what do you think? Which was first the chicken or the egg or rather Easter or Ostara( Eostre) ?

Grief and Anger In The Yard

Good morning readers, I’m hoping your weekend went well. I’m coming at you today from the heels of The Raven Faerie trip with another great film. There will be some spoilers as I usually touch and go with films in the past, but I rather open the lid a little bit more as this one had me twisting the shape of the story back and fourth, puzzling over what happened. So let’s brew about it!

The Lady In The Yard, surprisingly I didn’t have popcorn when I watched this and if I did I’d probably eat my hand off before I got to the next bite. The opening scene starts with a tragic insight of whom is missing in the family, the father and husband of the family of four and things look bleak. In fact, the main character and mother of the movie is not only in pain emotionally but also physically and she takes it out on her two children, being short and ill-tempered with them. This part unnerved me and made me mad which means to me that the writer, director, and actor were doing their job right.

Of course The Woman shows up in the beginning and getting things kicked off from the get go which doesn’t help the already broken and mourning family setting the oldest child and mother’s nerves on edge. The writer really showcases the main character’s mental health and her desire to get up and provide for her children with the statement of,”give me strength.” At first I thought that the character states this as she’s now the sole caretaker of the two children and she’s also physically trying to recover from an injury, but as the story goes on it seems there is a mental screw that’s loose along with overriding guilt.

As the story progresses The woman is now IN the house wreaking havoc on the children and woman and it seems only in the dark can they be safe, which is the exact opposite in most stories or movies. It felt like the dark was hiding the true nature of The woman and only the light could shed the true story of what is really happening, as well as whom or what it actually is.

THIS is where I get stuck, is The Woman the truth of the main character trying to push through and the main character is actually the dark recesses that’s wreaking havoc on herself and her children’s lives? Is that why as The Woman comes closer they have to shutter themselves into the attic? Or when The woman explains to the main character that the only way out is death if she keeps going down the path she’s currently going? In the end the main character shoos her children to the next farm over and makes the motions to end her life BUT there’s no gunshot?! All of a sudden the kids are back the electric is turned on and everything is hunky-dory showing one of the character’s painting but the signature is mirrored. So did The Woman take over and the main character is living in a fairytale world that everything is better?

There are a lot of twists and turns in this movie and I feel it deserves a second watch, because the more I keep turning this Rubix’s cube the more I question was The Woman the good part of the main character and the main character the darker parts of herself? Is she actually dead? Did her kids ACTUALLY come back and they are living their best lvies, BUT why is her named spelled backwards? What are your thoughts?

Magic Awaits!

Good afternoon readers, I hope all is well. I’m coming to you later than my usual posts due to my schedule being a tad off, but well worth the wait! I went out this time and I’m so glad that I did. I took a trip to The Raven Faerie, it’s a hop, skip, and a jump from where I live down country roads which suited me just fine. Let’s brew about it!.

The store front reminded me of Diagon Alley from harry Potter, with it’s displayed window filled with crystals, plants and all things magical. I didn’t call ahead to set up an interview but rather i wanted to do some recon before asking to do an interview. Saturdays are quite lively it seems which really shows the harmonious atmosphere that brings people in. In fact, I was welcomed in with bright and cheery voices.

I wish I had ten more pair of eyes, everywhere the displays enticed me to pick up and satisfy my curiosity. I had just missed a workshop that they had held so as customers left the building, more trickled in so the energy had a healthy hum to it along with my astonishment, cats! One is named Yin and the other is Yang and they were beautiful. I know it seems I have an affinity only for cats, but that isn’t the case,I just find it to be a wonderful surprise.

Each room had a name flowing from one to the next without a hitch. Besides beautiful crystals they have a book of realms, which there were quite a few I wanted to take home, herbs for tea in another with a magnificent throne, and even a temple which was rather peaceful. Even the bathroom was gorgeous done in an aquatic theme with mermaids, led lights and seascape sounds.

I did end up purchasing some crystals and making friends with Mae, come to find out we are both born in the same month. Not only did I make friends with a fellow Aquarius, but also happens to do workshops for Runes coming soon on Saturdays. I can’t wait to set up an official meet and greet with the owner and get into their classes, because this place is magical.

De-Extinct? Dire Wolves Are Back!

Good morning readers! I hope all is well and your weekend was relaxing. I’m enjoying the growth of my garden on the back patio. I do enjoy starting my day in the garden with Audrey 2 (aka Little Shop of Horrors plant) and the cats, but it would be interesting to be writing in a different place, maybe a mini adventure away from home or out of the state entirely. I would love to see a few little fur someones though and they were all the rage last night, let’s brew about it!

I was skimming through Facebook last night and I just so happened to see something about dire wolves popping up all over my feed like crazy. I thought to myself this has to be a scam or hoax because these guys have been extinct for WAYYYYY too long. Evidently, through bio-engineering they were able to extract fossilized dire wolf DNA and using red wolf DNA on top of using donor eggs have created three beautiful un-extinct mammals! It’s crazy to even type it let alone reading it. Why red wolf DNA though? The red wolf is the closest to the dire wolf genetics which ergo why they were used.

The first two dire wolves were born in 2024( I can’t BELIEVE I just typed 2024) and are named Remus and Romulus which if my werewolf history is of any use those are the names used in Underworld I believe, don’t Quote me! The newest member of the pack is a female pup named, Khalessi born this year. I am 110% sure I know where that’s coming from (Game of Thrones). It’s all so exciting. However, the location of the pups are at is unknown for many reasons I’m sure, but it is a great time to be alive during this monumental occasion! I’m also, thankful they paid heed to the disaster of what could happen from the many Jurassic movies. Hopefully, we will get more updates soon on how these little ones are thriving!

Garden Growth

Good morning readers, I’m in my sanctuary before the day begins, and it is nice and quiet surround by plants and of course the cats the peruse the neighborhood. The cars haven’t decided to zoom by with relish, or at least not the steady stream, yet. But I wanted to give you all an update on the vegetable/ fruit garden, let’s brew about it!

In the beginning of March, I planted tomatoes, cucumbers, and strawberries of which only one of the cucumber plants decided to have a “murder death kill,” within the first few days. I didn’t realize how delicate of a plant it is, so when transporting these bad boys from the garden center to your car to your home be aware of it’s surrounding these guys snap quick.

Also, cucumbers are vine plants and require a place to climb, luckily I had a couple of crates from the move that I placed behind the little guy. I highly recommend getting chicken wire to act as a lattice on the crate. Traditionally a lattice or cage is used to house climbing plants, but crates work just as well, if you’re looking for crates you can always call your local companies around you to se if they’re getting rid of any.

Other than that mishap everyone else is flourishing, the 2 tomato plants currently are bustling with tomatoes, the remaining cucumber plant is blooming and the strawberry plants well, they are starting to flow out of the pot and over the edge. I’m excited to see what growth will take place further into the year.

I plan on adding more cucumber plants, so the one lowly one has some buddies, but I’m thinking of adding zucchini, blackberry and bell peppers, possibly blue berries. I really don’t want to get overzealous, but I am revamping some pots to hold pollinator plants such as milkweed, passionflower and other tubular plants.

In the end having something to nurture snd watch grow is very humbling and satisfying. I enjoy relaxing in my little garden oasis. I really feel a fountain is needed four a sound sensory as well. I blame Secret Garden for my plant obsession, but I think also, with the constant screen action whether by laptop, phone, t.v. you get overloaded and desensitized so, it’s nice to dial it back. What do you think?

April Fools, But Why?

Good morning readers, we are now sliding into April, which it feels like this year has flown by like zero to sixty, how do you feel about it? As we all know April 1st is April Fools Day, but why is it April Fools? When and why did this start? Let’s brew about it!

I hadn’t realized how far back April Fools Day may have began into the middle ages. Now, if you noticed MAY HAVE is the key words in this sentence. There isn’t any hard evidence as to when or where it started. However, one of my favorite writers of all time for his very cheeky streak, Geoffrey Chaulcer, wrote many stories with quite a bit of a “tongue in cheek” drawl. His Canterbury tales (known for it’s tom foolery) and Nun’s Priest’s Tales makes a reference to April1st, but there isn’t any hard evidence, although I can’t see why Chaulcer wouldn’t approve of a day like this.

There are some references to a festival of fools, but I digress if I were to continue my research I’d be down the rabbit hole for days. SO let’s pivot to the now, April Fools Day is perfect to get one over on a friend, co-worker, significant other, etc. Pranks whether by word of mouth or action. However, with social media at our fingertips we can prank worldwide AND in real time.

I myself enjoy a good prank, but sadly I’m not fond of those that can harm or debase a person. April Fools is a day for laughter and not to be done in a harmful manner, I know I’m not the only one that has seen videos that play at random. With that I say enjoy a good laugh and be kinds to others.
