This is a drawing I’ve been working on. I haven’t inked her in but it is a work in progress. I’ve talked about drawing and writing my own things, yet I haven’t posted any of my art. So here we are a rough draft of the spirit of the forest. She is the keeper of secrets long since forgotten. She is full mischievousness ready to lead you on to a path you aren’t ready for. Fly or fall its your choice, if you dare. Catch her if you can, I’m game are you?

Yes, it’s been months since I blogged about anything. I did do a video for New Years albeit short and playful. However, I took a break but now yours truly is back to doing what she does best blog, find good eats and drink coffee by the pot full.
Today, I wanted to dive in and talk about Nora Roberts new book The Chronicles of the One: Year One. Now, I’ve been reading Nora Roberts novels for a lonnnnng time, back when she had romance novels and didn’t have her pin name J.D. Robb. I feel like I can say that I’m attuned to her rhythm in story telling. Year One however, pulled the rug out from under me in places, good story telling has twists and turns for the reader to devour.
The story starts off with a bang with an apocalypse in which, sorry guys no zombies here, the worldwide population succumbs to a change either your body rejects it and you die or you get super natural abilities. During this change the population is not only decimated but alliances are formed, bad people run a muck, and through it all a group of people find each other on their journey to a safe haven. There are more plot twists and enjoyed reading the point of view of the different characters. I like seeing the different perspectives and not just one character’s viewpoint. It’s a must read in my opinion and I look forward to the second installment which is Of Blood and Bone, this book goes on sale December 04, 2018. Just another day in paradise meandering about The Apple aka Manhattan, Kansas. After having brunch we stumbled upon a new find on their ribbon cutting day, Village Geek. What the business was before which was dark and covers drawn is now a bright and airy Mecca for new and old gamers alike. It is like a hidden gem that the new owners uncovered keeping true to the structure only creating a more open floor plan where customers can immediately immerse themselves in what else, games.
What caught my eye at first glance from the outside was the board games, I love Betrayal at the House on the Hill, it has haunting, horror, and what else ? Murder. It is the modern day Clue with a serious twist. But, Village Geek has so much more to offer! Comic books, card games, used video games that you can buy and they’ll also buy your games too. They have tables for game play as well, where players can bring their own games from home and play there.
I don’t know about you but, I enjoy a good game night. HOWEVER, when you can venture outside the ye olde casa to play, it is more thrilling. Here at Village Geek you can assemble the old crew in a lively atmosphere while also making new friends and game players. This is exactly what Village Geek wants creating a community through, well the community. Magic the Gathering tournaments are held, Dungeons and Dragons can be played on the wider tables and what also made my heart swoon is seeing the sweet looking Espresso Machine. So begone are the days of sitting at home behind closed doors or game night being cancelled when players can’t come to call, Village Geek is your home away from home.

In the days of Yor! But, seriously It was definitely a trip in the past. Time had stopped and had wound itself back with the land sprawling before me and the BrewCrew, long standing buildings nestled in what felt like the heart of Nottingham. The Kansas City Renaissance Fair team members had out done themselves yet again, vendors beckoned to wandering guests and actors mingled amongst the crowds of people all the while acting out their plays without skipping a beat. Though the sights and smells made us wish we had twenty more eyes it did not compare to the plethora of outstanding people we met on our journey.
We did meander a bit on the grounds soaking in the sights and sounds where we met The Maestro’s son Yamanu Boleyn, he beguiled his tale as he is a gypsie and in love with a maiden, photos to follow and scroll through for your enjoyment by the way. I can not tell you how enthralling it is to be within inches of a story unfolding in front of your eyes. Side note, The Maestro is the Entertainment Director and to see that his son also taking part in the fair seem to come full circle, like father like son in the love of entertaining and creating a lively atmosphere.
Though Yamanu’s story played across the map of the fair we did notice that other employees stayed on as short as five years, like, Samuel, who has worked the rides like the Dragon and his older brother whom started some years earlier before him. Then there’s the longstanding veterans such as Lord and Lady Catherine (their character names) have been playing in the historian parts of the fair. They play in the Scottish Encampment area of the fair where they can give you tour of the camp itself and throughout the fair grounds giving you a full history of Scottish affairs. They were so well cultivated to the study that they even had a moment of disagreement with each other, which as a couple that is supposedly married it befit the characters smoothly and was charming.
Then there is the lovely Clare whom has been coming for twenty-nine years. Mind you she has a big place in my heart for having loyalty and devotion for her craft and for the love of her business. However, I should say businesses since she recently opened Shamrockin, a booth of lovely decoupage stones where anyone can decorate with paint. Clare has been coming back for the seven weekends that the fair is open for twenty plus years making the trek from Ireland to Kansas each time, if that doesn’t say tenacity and devotion, I don’t know what does. Clare acquired the crepe booth which had only six crepes with the original owner but once Clare had her hand’s on the franchise it grew to more than a dozen delicious crepes from sweet to savory.
It really says something about a business when employees stay for years and years. I think what blows my mind is the vast community of people working together that not only know one another or know of each other contributing to one another causes. Especially, if you’re on the hunt for people to talk to for a story, they grab your arm, and quite literally say come this way.
We followed the sun on our walk through the fair to circle back around to the front gate as the sun began to set. The enthusiasm never cease even as the sky grew dark voices and instruments rose high giving patrons a very fond farewell. If you haven’t gone to a fair, then you’re missing out. I like to give a special thanks to Mary Pugh for giving us an opportunity to get closer to the fair than we ever have been before. And a few words of wisdom from one of the booth keepers, whose name is Sheila,
‘laugh everyday and let the little things go.’

The crunch of rocks under my tires and with the windows rolled down I heard the sound I was looking forward to all year, the sound of drums and shouts of revelry. It was a beautiful summer evening for a party especially for a Renaissance event. I’ve been going to the Renaissance Fair for years and by far the Kansas City Renaissance Fair is the best one. Kansas City Renaissance Fair is a whopping 16 acres with structures that stay up year round! The Renaissance Fair here gets bigger and better every year with street and stage performers, over a 150 venders, and you guessed it a bit of Game of Thrones, you haven’t watched that show you need to get on it.
Upon crossing the castle threshold I was greeted by mermaids flipping their tails and waving fans, faeries skipped about and the knights strutted. Even though it was just a taste of whats to come I felt the thrill of excitement bubble inside of me as actors interacted with one another and guests alike. I found myself being spoken to by faeries, lady’s in waiting and a couple of the Jolly Roger members, one of the bands that perform on stage. Not to mention the food! I tried some of the new items and I can tell you I’ll be looking for them when I go in September. The Crab and Lobster roll was delicious, it was served on a hoagie bun with arugula and a squeeze of lemon. The funnel cake fries with powdered sugar melted in my mouth and the caramel apple with fried mini donuts made my eyes roll in ecstasy. Guests kept going back and forth for more and I won’t lie, I did too.
Things you need to check out besides everything, Throne of Swords Tavern, Plague Escape, Highland Hill Scottish Encampment and The Dirty Pickle Liquor Bar are to name a few and these are brand new. The Dirty Pickle Liquor Bar had their hands busy as guests came up one after another. I don’t think I could keep up as fast as the bartenders were pouring. Buy tickets and spend the day, hell, the weekend. Get yourself into the royal events that have everything from a bar crawl to painting with wine because this one place you don’t want to miss, get out there people!

Still under a heave of construction but we as a whole will work like crazied people on the Soy Sauce, David Wong nod there, until we reach our goal. I promise you this won’t be a waste of your time in fact its imperative that we are on your start your day, end your day, must be need be in your daily life. Congrats on finding us. It is the brew that binds us.
