The Battle Between Ink and Paper

Hello fellow BrewFeeders!

I hope your New years went well. Last year I was a bit of a recluse but this year I want to push the envelope! 2018 wasn’t as super charged as the first year, 2017. However, I’m not ready to give up.

I wanted to talk about the book I’ve been reading. Personally, I’ve been quarreling with my inner demons on writing my own stories and art. It’s been frustrating where I’ll jump up and say I have something to say and then, squeak and run away when it comes time to put fingertips to keys.

BUT!!! I digress, I’ve been reading The Art of War for Writers by James Scott Bell. So far, I can nod in agreement like a bobblehead on crack. Everything that I do or feel he’s got me under that heat lamp of truth. It isn’t as harsh as I paint it but in fact, it’s more of an acknowledgement of the hand wrenching anxiety any artist feels when pouring out their whole world to well, the world. Relax all, there are exercises that help you relax and re-think on how to tackle pen to paper or keyboard to monitor or if you’re really nostalgic typewriter to paper(bravo by the way). Trust me Mr. Bell writes well and isn’t too wordy where you get lost but rather, gets straight to the point.

With my last words, keep trying, keep plugging away, don’t let anyone steal your worth!

Fear

Hey Brewfeeders,

I haven’t been on for months. Months, that’s terrible right? Same, lets move forward. Fear, to produce, to be, to make, stops the flow of creativity. Nothing like a cork to the hole, when fear creeps its shadow across your heart. I’ve been going through it as well. It is okay to feel the insecurity, it is human. However, don’t let anyone dim your shine. You are amazing and unforgettable. To be continued…..

What’s New? The Tech

Good Evening Everyone!

I hope everyone is doing well. Today, is a monumental day as I have purchased a new desktop. Before I have been using old reliable who is old and slow, it makes me sad to see things stop chasing the ghost but such is life technology even fails just like people as they age. So with a fresh new tower and devices I’ll be able to connect to the rest of the world with ease.

I am also, currently working on refurbishing a desk for the whole set up. I’ll post videos or photos of the process. So far, sanding takes up the most time. Just a tidbit if you want to take out frustration a sander and a wood project is just the thing. I am concerned with the staining because it’s something I haven’t really touched before. Here’s to hoping I don’t get too sloppy!

Welcome to Tampa!

Hello from the palms and sandy beaches!

BrewFeeds has moved from Manhattan, Kansas to Tampa, Florida and it is warm. We here at BrewFeeds miss the small town feel of the mom and pop stores and the gentle slope of hills but our new location is just as interesting if not at neck breaking speed. I’ve lived in Florida before so I recall the fast pace especially the “exuberant” drivers. There are a lot of places to check out, eat at, and  get involved with. Every corner I turn around, there’s something to see. So, as much as we miss the warmth and homey feels the next chapter will be just as great. So, we bid you a due Kansas ‘and a very fond farewell.’

The Greatest Showman

Hey all!

Have you seen The Greatest Showman? If you haven’t you’re missing out. If you felt like an outcast or your normalcy isn’t the “norm” this is the movie for you. I can’t imagine myself as a can good of creamed corn, ever.  But it starts with a love story and following the main character he felt he had something to prove against all odds but when he pushed too far he lost the spark of what he held dear. It’s a magical movie filled with intrigue and imagination mixed with inspiration. Don’t give up your spark shine on you beautiful beauties and watch this movie, be inspired!

Gruesome to the Last Drop

Hello Everyone!

I’m back to the books again and this time I decided to revisit a writer. I vlogged about L.I. Albemont before on another one of her books, A Haunting. She is my first horror read, thus having a special place in my little book heart.

The book from L.I. Ablemont I read this time is The Kirk. Last time A Haunting was a book about a haunted house, this time it’s the land. It’s about a single mother of two relocating to a small town in Oklahoma. The small town itself has a dark history, it starts out like a fresh start for the trio but the longer they stay in their new home the darker the days turn. The ride I had on this book kept me chewing on my fingernails and yet again, jumping at shadows.

I like how real the characters are, their flaws and unique qualities. The book is jam packed with history and moments that had me stopping to take a breath to collect myself. Her vivid descriptions set the setting and mood from light to gruesomely dark. I can’t wait to read more of her works.

Code Word: Annilation!!!!

Hello Brewfeeders,

This is your hostess with the mostess. I’m coming at you again with a book you must have at your fingertips. Annihilation by Jeff Vandermeer is a book to reckon with. If you seen the movie scratch it. The book is nothing like the movie. I’m all about artists being creative, even innovative towards their craft but the main character in Annihilation wasn’t a gun toting individual.

However, let’s get back to the book topic. Annihilation  is a good read. The descriptive sense floored me with the intricacy.   A place of unknown where others have traveled makes a  heart skip a beat both with trepidation and excitement thus the main character is enthralled. Why not? I would.

X is what they call this place that is gradually taking over a part of the town’s area. It is a habitat of unknown, a spook place where people speak in undertones about a site in which things aren’t “normal.”It is a slab of land  where people go missing. In fact, many squads of military go into this new found area and are consumed by it. Everyone has a different experience and are swallowed by the environment one way or another.

This is where many people have stomped their feet and if you have nothing to lose then why not?  You have nothing and nothing to give. This is where Jeff takes you. Your brain will splatter with effect reading this book on the travels with this character. You will question the nature of your relationship with friends and family with this being said do you dare to go on the flipside  as I have? Make it worth the chance.

From the Woods she Calls

This is a drawing I’ve been working on. I haven’t inked her in but it is a work in progress. I’ve talked about drawing and writing my own things, yet I haven’t posted any of my art. So here we are a rough draft of the spirit of the forest. She is the keeper of secrets long since forgotten. She is full mischievousness ready to lead you on to a path you aren’t ready for. Fly or fall its your choice, if you dare. Catch her if you can, I’m game are you?

Year One, Apocalyptic

Hello All!

Yes, it’s been months since I blogged about anything. I did do a video for New Years albeit short and playful. However, I took a break but now yours truly is back to doing what she does best blog, find good eats and drink coffee by the pot full.

Today, I wanted to dive in and talk about Nora Roberts new book The Chronicles of the One: Year One. Now, I’ve been reading Nora Roberts novels for a lonnnnng time, back when she had romance novels and didn’t have her pin name J.D. Robb. I feel like I can say that I’m attuned to her rhythm in story telling. Year One however, pulled the rug out from under me in places, good story telling has twists and turns for the reader to devour.

The story starts off with a bang with an apocalypse in which, sorry guys no zombies here, the worldwide population succumbs to a change either your body rejects it and you die or you get super natural abilities. During this change the population is not only decimated but alliances are formed, bad people run a muck, and through it all a group of people find each other on their journey to a safe haven. There are more plot twists and enjoyed reading the point of view of the different characters. I like seeing the different perspectives and not just one character’s viewpoint.  It’s a must read in my opinion and I look forward to the second installment which is Of Blood and Bone, this book goes on sale December 04, 2018. Check out Nora Roberts website and her other amazing books http://www.noraroberts.com/

Welcome to Village Geek!

Good Evening BrewFeeders!

Just another day in paradise meandering about The Apple aka Manhattan, Kansas. After having brunch we stumbled upon a new find on their ribbon cutting day, Village Geek. What the business was before which was dark and covers drawn is now a bright and airy Mecca for new and old gamers alike. It is like a hidden gem that the new owners uncovered keeping true to the structure only creating a more open floor plan where customers can immediately immerse themselves in what else, games.

What caught my eye at first glance from the outside was the board games, I love Betrayal at the House on the Hill, it has haunting, horror, and what else ? Murder. It is the modern day Clue with a serious twist.  But, Village Geek has so much more to offer! Comic books, card games, used video games that you can buy and they’ll also buy your games too.  They have tables for game play as well, where players can bring their own games from home and play there.

I don’t know about you but, I enjoy a good game night. HOWEVER, when you can venture outside the ye olde casa to play, it is more thrilling. Here at Village Geek you can assemble the old crew in a lively atmosphere while also making new friends and game players. This is exactly what Village Geek wants creating a community through, well the community. Magic the Gathering tournaments are held, Dungeons and Dragons can be played on the wider tables and what also made my heart swoon is seeing the sweet looking Espresso Machine.  So begone are the days of sitting at home behind closed doors or game night being cancelled when players can’t come to call, Village Geek is your home away from home.

I look forward to game night at Village Geek soon and a cup of hot coffee,
