Good evening readers! I don’t know about you but I’m so ready for Halloween; I’m ready for fall, decorations, and spooky stories. If you were following me last year, know that I like to at least kick things off by the end of August or beginning of September. And those of you who are just joining, first, welcome, and secondly my neighbors didn’t put anything up UNTIL October. Then, it was a hasty retreat to put up Christmas the following day or weekend after Halloween, real lame if you ask me. But while i wait for the world around me to get into the Augtober feels, I wanted to talk about Evil Dead Burns, let’s brew about it!

It’s been a few years since the last Evil Dead, which was evil Dead Rises. That one had me jumping everywhere and low and behold there were a few directors that came back to do this year’s Evil dead franchise. In fact, the same director created The Mummy this year as well, John Cronin. Evil Dead Burns is about Alice, who is recently widowed: her husband, Will Price, having died in car crash done by none other than a Deadite. In turn, during the funeral, Edgar, Will’s father get’s attacked by Will before he is cremated.

Alice, after her husband’s funeral goes to his family’s house for the wake, here’s the twist Professor Benjamin Price, is the late grandfather of the family! Professor Benjamin Price is widely known for his knowledge of the  Necronomicon and holds the key to destroy, the Deadites a dagger known as Kandarian. Unfortunately, or may not so unfortunate, the dagger is in the house along with the professor’s research and record tapes.

Slowly, the house is descends into chaos not sure where to run or whom, is NOT alive. Most of the scariest scenes are seen in the trailer, which was kind of a bummer, but to watch it in sequence was really cool. In the end Alice, takes on her husband with the Kandarian Dagger. They also, hint about the next Evil Dead as well, bringing back the mother from Evil Dead Rising.

Now, this movie like I said had me jumping all of the place, and I do love the Evil Dead franchise, BUT the last two movies had female leads. The heroine dukes out with the Deadites and makes it out. In this new installment, the male characters are either narcissistic assholes or weak and sniveling, which doesn’t sit well with me. The only real strong protagonist is Ash, it seems, which I mean I love Ash. All hail Bruce Campbell!

But what are your thoughts? Did you like Evil Dead Burns or Did you like Evil Dead rising more? Or Which is YOUR favorite Evil Dead, mine will always be the one with Ash and the 2013 Evil Dead, I think.

Good evening readers! I hope everyone is enjoying a much deserved relaxing weekend. I could definitely go for one of those, but there is so much to do and get ready for because the Face Of Halloween competition this year is around the corner! But in order to prepare an opportunity knocked on my door quite literally in my neighborhood, let’s brew about it!

So, you know I did a piece on The Sir Henry’s Haunted Trail, not too many moons ago, and it was a BLAST, but I think what intrigued me more than getting the interview was the idea of being a part of this whole different world, filled with creative stories behind each haunted house and what it took to bring it to life. However, this year, something came across my table, a casting call.

I love to paint, sculpt, and the mechanics, but I never thought about actually being a scare actor, I mean it intrigued me but I wasn’t sure if I had the chops, then. NOW, after being in the Face Of Halloween(FOH) last year, and being more dedicated in creating a community on social media i.e. Facebook, Instagram, I’ve become more comfortable being on camera and in fact, LOVE it. So, when a casting call came around in my local area, I jumped on it. This place is called Pemberton Haunted Acres and this place is HUGE!

I was scared at first, for putting my name in the pot, because I never done something like this before but I had to try. THIS was the direction I wanted to go, something creative and fun. Not only that but the thrill of being behind the scenes, learning the process of BECOMING a creature or undead being, networking, making new friends, just the overall experience. The crew of Pemberton Haunted Acres, were FANTASTIC, I don’t know about the other participants trying out but I felt comfortable, relaxed and had a lot of fun doing the warm ups and improv, I think my favorite part was getting the owner and the other associates laughing during one of my improv sessions.

With that being said I’m excited to see if I get hired on to Pemberton Haunted Acres because it’d be a great experience and an opportunity to explore in direction that I feel best fits what I want to do as a career or part of a journey to another that is not just seasonal, but forever.

So, I say all this, and you’re wondering where the FUCK does Face of Halloween come into play? FOH has hinted on their social media to hang tight, since there aren’t any dates, yet , but if this year is anything like last year at the tail end of the competition, they were looking to see if we give back to our community, seeing as it is a fundraiser for the Starlight Children’s Foundation and all. So, not only is there an experience at Pemberton Haunted Acres it will help bolster what I do for my community as well.

Good evening my devoted readers! I hope everyone has accomplished their goals you’ve envisioned for yourselves, if not rest assured you can in August; make it yours. I know I had to pivot, I’ve been going on and on about this trellis, and now the day has arrived, let’s brew about it!

So, goals, they’ve got deadlines or you should have them in place. However, there’s always forces at play and for me it was the dream of having my own teepee trellis. I’ve never made a trellis before and when I seen on either Facebook or Instagram, I had to have one in my garden? Not exactly ground breaking, its a trellis done in a cone shape and you’re just growing some fucking beans up it. Nothing, wild but let me tell you for a girl who’s never grown anything but flowers, this started off with a lot of errors, at least with getting the beans started. Out of the first batch only 1 bean out of 8 survived in the mini greenhouse I bought from Lowes. The soil was too damp because I had overwatered the dirt; the beans can easily mildew is what I learned.

I also, did it backwards, I got all the makings for a teepee trellis the bamboo stakes, the plastic gallon pots, twine and dirt, but no beans! But those were the parts that were most expensive. I bought all but the dirt, bean seeds, and greenhouse trey from Amazon. Now, could I have bought the plastic pots at Walmart? Sure, I could have but I was able to bulk buy the pots and stakes from Amazon for a very good price; which lent me leftovers for future projects. The dirt and twine I bought from Walmart, and the seeds and green house trey from Lowes.

Also, the weather here in Florida is temperamental what with it being hurricane season and it’s been very rainy this season. The beans were ready to be staked and placed in the planter bed but the rain inhibited me from getting out there to clear the space and place them. But this weekend I made a break for it, cleared the bed and was abled to get them strapped in place. I wove the twine in and out through the stakes and so far its still standing. I doubt if there was a real hurricane that it would withstand it of course! But since I strapped it with twine I’d be able to cut it down quickly and take them to shelter IF they’re still alive.

Now, is this cost effective? I wouldn’t say that it was in some ways, the stakes were about 50 and so were the plastic pots, but again, bought in bulk for future projects. So, with that known, the least expensive item on this list was the seeds roughly a few bucks, the greenhouse roughly 8, twine was 5, and the dirt 10.
