Good evening readers, I hope you got your lickies and chewies because tonight is another night in for me. I’ve been in a lot of pain lately and haven’t been able to get out and about as I’d like to. So, I’ve been catching up on movies, and Hokum, brought the terrors, let’s brew about it!
Now, much can’t be figured out in the trailers for this movie when I first seen them. Usually, you get an idea of what is going on but I wasn’t so sure, but it turned out to be a really jumpy ride of a movie. So, it’s about a famous writer played by Adam Scott, his character Ohm, is due to finish his third installment to his book series, but writer’s block is taking it’s toll on him. Feeling, the walls closing in Ohm, decides to take a trip to Ireland where his parents honeymooned to lay their ashes to rest and hopefully finish writing his book.

Now, the character Ohm, I had trouble with because, well, he’s a dick to just about everyone. I sensed there was some serious character growth needing to happen, upon arriving Ohm overhears a tale about a witch that tricks passerby’s chaining them to her and taking them to a dark and ominous abyss filled with terror and pain. Again, a witch is mentioned when Ohm, visits the bar, learning that the honeymoon suite is locked to all due to the owner trapping her there.
There’s so many easter eggs in this movie that I’d be here for a long time and eventually write the movie, so let’s full speed this, Ohm, tries to commit suicide, his character is filled with hate anger, and loathing of the human kind. Ohm, tries to come back to the hotel to thank and apologize the bartender, Fiona, played by Florence Ordesh, however, Fiona has been missing the night he tried to kill himself. Ohm, unsure how to help find Fiona stumbles upon a local homeless man, Jerry, whom, is a friend of Fiona’s, who has a plan to break in because he’s seen Fiona’s ghost and believes she’s in the honeymoon suite.

Ohm, reluctantly follows Jerry and ends up locked in the honeymoon suite by the owner’s son in-law. Fiona is ACTUALLY in the room and there is indeed a witch! As Ohm, tries to find a way out his own demons he’s locked up are unraveling and as the witch draws closer, hotel is in danger of burning Ohm alive.
This movie, has the old world charm of a dark fairy tale, a character lost in his own pain of the past and a reluctant road of redemption. I really enjoyed Hokum, it’s a shame it didn’t get a lot of hype. But have you seen Hokum? If you haven’t make sure you watch it in the dark, it’ll have you seeing things lurking in the dark.
As Always Keep On Brewin!
